The University of Ruhuna, in collaboration with the FOUNTAIN Project and the Centre for Quality Assurance, is organizing a pivotal event titled “Work-Based Learning in Undergraduate Programmes: Sharing Best Practices.” Scheduled for September 9th, this event will gather academic leaders, industry experts, and educational policymakers to discuss and share best practices in work-based learning. The program will feature a series of sessions, starting with a welcome address by Prof. NSBM Atapattu, Director of the Centre for Quality Assurance at the University of Ruhuna, followed by keynote speeches and presentations by distinguished figures including Vice Chancellor Snr. Prof. Sujeewa Amarasena, and various coordinators and directors from universities across Sri Lanka and international institutions.

The agenda includes sharing best practices, discussing the internship and industrial training programs, and addressing the integration of industry-relevant skills in undergraduate curricula. The sessions aim to foster an environment of knowledge exchange, focusing on enhancing the quality of education and better preparing students for the workforce. The event will conclude with a brainstorming session to discuss strategic approaches to implementing work-based learning, followed by a closing remark by Ms. Chamila Wijekoon, Head of the Soil Science Department, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Ruhuna. This initiative marks a significant step in the continuous effort to bridge the gap between academic learning and industry demands.
